Lighthouses of Aruba

The Noordwestpunt lighthouse, pictured above, is the lighthouse visited the most by tourists on Aruba and is located on the Northwest end of the island. The structure stands 98 feet in height and although it is currently closed to the public, it is used by passing ships for navigational purposes as a light flashes every 10 seconds from the top of the lighthouse. It is also refered to as the "California lighthouse" because a steamship named "Californian" wrecked nearby in 1891.

The site has grown even more popular with tourists over the last few years with the May 30, 2005 disappearence of American teenager Natalee Holloway. Prior to her disappearence, Miss Holloway was last seen on the beaches surrounding the lighthouse.
